Formed in 2010, Khruangbin’s name derives from the Thai word for “airplane” (เครื่องบิน), reflecting their international musical inspirations. Their sound is a fusion of psychedelic rock, surf rock, funk, dub, and soul, infused with elements from Thai rock, Iranian pop, and West African rhythms .
The trio’s journey began when Speer and Johnson met while playing in a gospel band at St. John’s Methodist Church in Houston. Speer later connected with Ochoa over shared interests in global music and architecture.
